FBCD is a Southern Baptist church with traditional services with some contemporary worship. The church was started in 1907 making it 117 years old and continues to offer ministries that accommodate all age groups.

The senior pastor is responsible to the church to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, to teach biblical revelation, to engage in pastoral care ministries, to provide administrative leadership in all areas of church life, and to act as the chief administrator of the paid staff.  He shall serve as the chief undershepherd and overseer of the church, feeding, leading and nurturing the sheep.  His main responsibilities will be to communicate God’s Word, minister to spiritual needs and provide biblical leadership for the church.

Average Work Week: Five days per week, including Sundays and Wednesdays.  Posted office hours and days off to be determined by the pastor.  On-call and accessible for emergency situations.

ANTICIPATED TIME COMMITMENTS:

Minstry Preparation and Participation

Set aside an appropriate amount of time to visit with and minister to prospects, church members, and the sick.

2.

Participation in Meetings, Training and Sermon Preparation

Expected to participate and be involved in the local Baptist association.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

 

1. Provide leadership and vision for the church through an effective program of witnessing and in a caring ministry for persons in the church and community.  As such, will need to reside within Franklin County, preferably within 15 miles of the church.
2. Direct plans for ministry and church growth, as well as develop the church structure based on the Team philosophy of ministry.
3. Motivate, equip and nurture the people of the church through example, preach and teach God’s Word and provide spiritual counseling.
4. Spend significant time in prayer and Bible study.
5. Contact and/or visit hospitalized or grieving church members, as well as visiting church members to establish a one-on-one relationship with the members of the church.
6. Plan and conduct worship services, participating in evangelism efforts through preaching and giving invitations during services or revivals, visitation and other outreach efforts.
7. Perform baptisms and lead in observance of ordinances. Available to officiate at weddings and funerals, if requested (at the pastor’s discretion).
8.  Provide premarital counseling, counseling regarding salvation and spiritual issues and other counseling for church members.
9. Oversee church discipline and manage conflict within the church.  Seek to reconcile relationships and promote unity within the church.
10. Cooperate with associational, state and denominational leaders in matters of mutual interest and concern; keep the church informed of denominational developments; represent the church in civil matters.
11. Serve as chairman of Church Council to lead in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating the total church program.
12. Act as moderator of church business meetings.
13. Work with deacons, church officers and committees as they perform their assigned responsibilities; train and lead the deacons in a program of visitation and family ministry.
14. Serve as chief administrator of the paid church staff; supervise the work of paid staff members.
